About Us

The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) is the independent UK regulator of the nuclear industry, including existing, de-commissioned and new reactors.

ONR independently regulates nuclear safety and security at 37 nuclear licensed sites in the UK and also regulates transport of nuclear materials to ensure that safeguards obligations for the UK are met.

ONR employs more than 600 professional staff across specialist regulatory roles and other core corporate functions. ONR’s Head Office is in Bootle, Liverpool, with two smaller offices in London and Cheltenham.
